  • Over 71% of the NHS carbon footprint now comes from purchased goods and services, creating intense pressure on every supplier to prove rapid emissions reduction.

  • Evergreen submission is already mandatory for NHS Supply Chain frameworks and NHS England Medicines tenders.

  • From 6 April 2026, every NHS Supply Chain tender will require suppliers to hold Evergreen Level 1.

  • The NHS will stop buying from suppliers who cannot demonstrate Net Zero alignment by 2030, a shift expected to remove 9,446 ktCO₂e per year from the system. Failure to comply means losing NHS market access entirely.

  • From April 2027, every supplier must report global Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, not just UK operations, massively expanding reporting complexity and risk. Those who delay will struggle to catch up.
